Dear Shoreham Village Residents and Former Residents (Year-round and Summer),

Ever since Shoreham Village's 2013 Centennial Celebration, the Shoreham Village Veteran's Project (headed by long-time Village resident Tom Spier and with the endorsement the Village of Shoreham Board of Trustees), has been gathering information about Shoreham Village's Veterans -- past and present -- for the Shoreham Village historical archive as a significant part of our history, and to honor our Veterans on a Veteran's commemorative plaque to be dedicated Veteran's Day weekend, November 2019, and to be hung in a prominent place of honor in the Shoreham Village Hall.

To-date, we have the names and service information for over 160 Shoreham Village Veterans.

We hope to finally bring this project to fruition in late 2019 with the dedication of the plaque, and so we are asking the following of you:

1. Tell us about a Shoreham Village Veteran or current Active Duty Serviceman or Servicewoman:

If you haven't done so already, please send us the the name and service information about a Shoreham Village Veteran (living or deceased) or current active duty serviceman/servicewoman whom you know about-- yourself, a friend/acquaintance or relative. Criteria for being a Shoreham Village Veteran/Active servicemember are:

Has ever lived in Shoreham Village (year-round or summer)

Has ever served in a branch of the U.S. Military (NOTE: years of service do not need to coincide with years of residence in Shoreham Village)

How to get us the Veteran Information

A. Please complete either of the following two linked “Shoreham Village Veterans Project Questionnaire" forms: About a Veteran

Note: You may be able to get more information about your Veteran's service records from the National Archives website.

Note also: If you're not sure whether or not the Shoreham Village Veterans Project alreadly has information about this Veteran, please inquire by email.

2. Donate, if you'd like (optional), to help defray the cost of the Shoreham Village Veterans Plaque

There will be a significant expense associated with creating the Shoreham Village Veterans Plaque and engraving all the Veterans' names on the plaque, to be hung and dedicated in the Shoreham Village Hall, Veterans Day weekend, 2019 (Details about the dedication ceremony will be posted on the Shoreham Village web site as the date draws near.) The Shoreham Village Association (TSVA)-- http://www.shorehamtsva.org/, a registered non-profit community organization based in the Village, is sponsoring the plaque and ceremony. If you would like to contribute to the TSVA to help defray these costs, please send a check-- in any amount, large or small-- made out to "The Shoreham Village Association." In the check's memo line, be sure to write "Veterans Plaque" to make sure your donation is directed to this effort.

Mail your donation to:

The Shoreham Village Association
P.O. Box 678
Shoreham NY 11786

  • Note that your donation is entirely voluntary. There is no obligation to donate to this effort in order to submit the name of a Veteran for inclusion on the plaque.

Thank you!!

Very truly yours,

Thomas P. Spier (Project Chair)  Mimi Oberdorf, Shoreham Village Historian
