| Sept. 18 | Appointment of First Village Clerk | Residents had voted to establish a Village, but the Village did not yet have a government to appoint its first clerk, so the Suffolk County Clerk appointed the Village's first Village Clerk. A clerk was needed in order to conduct the Village's first election of its first officers (Mayor, then called "President" and Trustees.) |
